You don’t have to skinny to pull off any style as long as you are dressing for your body type. Wear clothes that fit, compliment your figure, and you don’t have to bare it all. Of course all the models in magazines are skinny. That’s just the way of fashion but you don’t have to look like those models. It’s the same way in any American or mainstream magazine. So yes of course you can be gyaru at any size just like you can be a hipster at any size. 

As for confidence this is something I have suffered with for a long time. It’s hard to just (excuse my language) not give any fucks. I think the best way to get confident in any situation is to let go of fear and get some perspective.

Ok so there are billions of people in the world. So how does what one person wears matter? It really doesn’t. It only matters to that one person and that’s all that matters. Sure some people passing by might be passing judgement but let’s face it… they aren’t your homies! As long as you look in the mirror and you’re happy with what you see then it’s all gravy. 

Another thing to do is to look at all the people and remember they are all the same as you. We are all people just trying to get by no matter how pretty or ugly or whatever we are. Everyone has their fair share of baggage and everyone has felt insecure a time or two. Suddenly everyone’s opinions seem to matter a lot less huh? We are all the same and they are you and you are them and no one is above the other. So who has the right to judge anyone? Nobody. So why care if anyone judges you?
